I stepped out of my car, breathed in the cool air, and felt instantly peaceful. And I knew then this would be my new home—up on a hill looking out over Grand Traverse Bay. It was a cold January day, but I could imagine the snow melting away, the bare trees filling in with green. I could imagine a future here where I could be free. Not long after that, I was moving in, towing my mountain of books with me.
I’m here now, writing on my balcony, enjoying a wide-open blue sky and a spring breeze. I’m sitting here, finally ready to tell you that I’m getting divorced…
